PA-SA 1: Screening and Intake
|
|
The agency promptly and responsively
screens individuals to identify urgency of need efficiently and direct individuals to appropriate services.
Individuals are screened at intake and informed about:
- how well the individual’s request matches the agency's services; and
- what services will be available and when.
NA Another agency is responsible for screening.
Prompt, responsive screening practices:
- ensure equitable treatment;
- give priority to urgent needs and emergency situations;
- facilitate the identification of individuals and families who have co- occurring conditions and multiple needs;
- support access to an integrated assessment process;
- support timely initiation of services; and
- provide for placement on a waiting list, if desired.
Interpretation: Urgent situations include those in which an individual has a child in the child welfare system and should be considered for priority in treatment.

|
Research Note: Screening processes should be designed to facilitate access for and identification of individuals who present for substance use services and have co-occurring medical, mental health, and other conditions. |
 |
Individuals who cannot be served, or cannot be served promptly, are referred or
connected to appropriate resources.
NA The agency: (1) accepts all
clients, or (2) only receives clients by referral, and is required by
contract to accept all
referrals.
